Expungement

1. Obtain Rap Sheets

Community Members seeking expungement or sealing must get their rap sheets.

• If the arrest occurred in the City of Chicago, you would need to go to Chicago Police Headquarters located at 3510 S. Michigan, First Floor, Room 1043. The hours of operation are Tuesday through Thursday, 8:00 am to 1:30 pm.

• You will need to complete a "Request for Access and Review" form and you will also be fingerprinted. The cost is $16, and the RAP sheet should take approximately two weeks to be processed. You should also request your Illinois State Police Criminal History Transcript when requesting your RAP sheet.

• If the arrest occurred outside the City of Chicago but within Cook County, you will need to contact the arresting agency to determine their process for obtaining a RAP sheet and/or ISP Criminal History Transcript.
•  You can also contact the Illinois State Police at isp.boi.customer.support@illinois.gov to obtain an ISP Criminal History Transcript that will list arrests throughout Illinois.

2. Bring RAP Sheets to T.R.E.A.D. (by appointment only -- call 773-468-0474)

• Bring RAP Sheet(s) and a valid Illinois Driver's License and/or Valid Illinois Identification Card to T.R.E.A.D., 11320 S Halstead, Chicago, on Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday between 10:00 am - 2:00 pm.
• T.R.E.A.D. will assist you in understanding your Rap Sheet(s), any possible barriers to expungement/sealing, expectations at your hearing(s), etc.
• Be prepared to answer questions pertaining to your income. Our legal aid partners focus their work on supporting low-income individuals negatively impacted by the criminal justice system.
